Govt challenged to dress up fashion sector

Zimbabwean fashion brand Jan Jam owner, Cynthia Bizure-Sithole has called for government support for the fashion industry, which she described as a vibrant sector capable of contributing towards the country’s economic growth. “The government must re-look at some of the policies, especially on taxation, it is not favourable, particularly for us as the SMEs [small-and-medium enterprises],” she said.

Furniture inspired by great-grandmother

South African fashion designer Rich Mnisi called his first leather and steel furniture pieces Nwa-Mulamula after his great-grandmother, the “guardian figure”. It is a collection consisting of two pieces, a navy leather chaise and a seat made of the same leather that stands on a bronze base. He says that this is a representation of a guardian figure whose teachings and wisdom is passed down through the generations.

It was the pinnacle of her beauty pageant career but it very nearly turned to tragedy for Miss Congo Dorcas Kasinde after her wig caught fire amid the pyrotechnics celebrating her coronation as Miss Africa 2018.

The 24-year-old Kasinde was mid-celebration with 2017 winner Gaseangwe Balopi from Botswana when a stray spark caused her magnificent wig to ignite, unleashing panicked gasps and screams from horrified onlookers.
